Just A Game

Augie sat on the edge of his seat, watching the TV intently. The football match was close, and the young raccoon could see the time ticking down. His favourite team had the ball and were trying their hardest to move it down the ground, and Augie held his breath, wishing them on. Suddenly the siren sounded and Augie blinked. They had lost. His favourite team had lost by just one point. Augie's heart caught in his throat, his bottom lip starting to quiver as tears welled in his eyes.
"Augie?"
The young raccoon looked up at his father, blinking through his tears.
"Augie, what's wrong?"
"They lost," Augie sobbed. "I thought they were going to win, but they lost."
His father crouched down and put an arm around Augie's shoulders, comforting him.
"It's OK, Augie. They tried their hardest. It's OK that they lost. No team can will every game."
Augie's father gently wiped away the raccoon's tears, smiling kindly.
"It's good that you're passionate about it, Augie, but remember. There will always be another chance to win. After all, it's only a game..."
