Droplet made her way carefully through the rocky outcrop. Behind her the summer sun rose slowly into the sky. She paused for a moment, feeling the warmth on her back. Droplet took a deep breath, smelling the familiar odors that guided her. She was almost home. She continued on, and soon found a small secluded cave amongst the rocks. Once more she took a deep breath, and smiled as she caught her mother's scent that clung to the rocks. It smelled safe, warm, and loving, giving her a sense of peace. Droplet entered the cave, the very presence of the young icewolf causing the air temperature to drop, and a light frost to form on the cave walls. She made her way towards the back of the cave and spotted a smooth, deep depression warn into the floor. Droplet sat down in it, relaxing. She breathed heavily from her long journey. Outside the day passed, and a calm feeling overcame her. She gazed at her stomach, running a hand over the pregnant bulge in her belly. The summer solstice was here, and it was time to give birth to her baby. Droplet closed her eyes, falling into a deep sleep. Her body began to run, melting slowly away until there was nothing left of the icewolf but a pure, crystal clear pond that filled the depression she had laid in. It was time.
The pond shimmered, it's waters sparking as something almost magical happened. Ripples appeared, spreading out from the middle to lap up against the banks of the depression. Slowly, with a life of it's own, the water rose and took on a form of a pretty young wolf. She was half formed when her eyes opened and she glanced around. She gave a small gasp, taking in her first breath, and she could smell those who had been there before her. Her great-grandmother, Nimbus. Her grandmother, Frost. And finally her mother, Droplet. The wolf continued to form from the waters and soon she was complete enough to take a shaky step. The icewolf giggled. With reverence, she managed to kneel down and dipped her hands into the remains of the pond, scooping it up and drinking it, the water quenching the thirst that overcame her. When she was done, she stood up, and with more and more confidence, the wolf made her way to the cave entrance looking out at the new world that greeted her. A dim voice, a memory of the past, tugged at the edge of her mind, and she smiled. It was a final gift from her mother. The young icewolf closed her eyes and concentrated, speaking her first words to the waiting world.
