Flyte

Flyte stood at the edge of the cliff-face and glanced out at the valley floor far below. The young snake smiled and traced out a run up, adjusting her leather aviator helmet and goggles as she did so. With a deep breath to focus herself, Flyte sprinted forward. She hit the edge of the cliff and jumped, soaring out into the abyss. For the briefest of moments she hug in the air before gravity took over, and she plummeted down. The wind whipped and buffeted her as she fell, and Flyte cried out with joy at the sheer exhilaration of her free fall. Seconds ticked by, and the ground rushed towards her, but Flyte was unconcerned. With a spasm, the muscles along her spine contracted, causing the special ribs in her belly and tail to rotate, flaring outwards to form pseudo-wings. Flyte's free-fall was arrested and she swooped up, performing barrel rolls and loops, lost in the freedom of flight.

Flyte touched down, her boots kicking up some dust as she landed. She removed her helmet and goggles, letting the cool breeze blow over the scales of her head. The young snake had spent the better part of 2 hours flying about and having fun, but now it was getting late, and she needed to get home. She didn't mind the long trek back to the village, the trip would give her time to calm down after the adrenaline rush of her base jumping. As the sun slowly set, filling the valley with evening shadows, Flyte glanced back, peering up at the top of the cliffs. A sigh of contentment escaped her lips. Flyte knew, as long as she had somewhere to jump from, then nothing would dampen her adventurous spirit...
