Fires Of War

Kiara-Ne sighted along the old bolt action rifle and held her breath. Slowly her finger tightened, taking up the slack on the trigger. The gun bucked, and a loud crack echoed about as she sent the bullet down range. Kiara-Ne glanced up. There on the target was a small round hold, down and to the right of the center. Kiara-Ne raised an eyebrow. She replayed the shot, using her bionic eye to track all the bullet's trajectory. She sighed. Her sights on the rifle were off. Carefully the Captain began to readjust them, making sure that every part fitted well. She took pride in being a sharp-shooter, and hated it when her performance was not up to her usual expectations. Kiara-Ne studied the rifle, satisfied it was dialed in correctly. She chambered another round and went through the ritual once more. A smile crossed her lips as she saw a fresh hole, dead center on the target.
"Perfect," she said softly.
Kiara-Ne ran a hand tenderly over her rifle. It was old, but trustworthy. And it had made her the marksman she had become today...
