Dino Rider Ammonites.

In response to the Valorian's recent acquisition of the Kronosaurus, the Rulons have fought back with mined ammonites. Never ones to worry about the welfare of their mounts, the Rulons have gathered up various ammonite species and attached underwater mines to them. The coiled shelled species are mainly used for passive defense. They float in vast shoals, rising or sinking in the water column depending on how deep the Rulons need them. The bombs bolted to their shells become primed when the ammonite's new bionic sensors detect the presence of Valorian forces, and will detonate when the targets get too close. Scattered around the fringes of these living minefields can be found some straight shelled forms. These forms represent an aggressive defense strategy. The tips of their shells are tipped with sharp, jagged metal sheaths. Should the Valorians start to circle around the ammonite minefield, these straight shelled ammonites are goaded into attacking, stabbing their bladed tips into the flesh of the Valorian mounts. It is then that the bombs these ammonites carry detonate, causing massive injury, and even death, to the enemies of the Rulons.
