Amongst Her Kind

It was late at night, but that didn't bother June-La as she walked through the garage, turning out the lights. All around her were tanks, hover transports, bikes and trucks. They were her friends, her patients, and her babies. The Warrant Officer knew her fellow legionnaires didn't fully understand her relationship with machines and vehicles, but that was alright. Truth be told, she didn't really understand may of their relationships either. How two organics could find 'true love' was a concept June-La struggled with. Oh sure she loved her friends, and was Soultouched to her husband, but those were special situations. For June-La, her first 'loves' were always cold metal and electronics. Oil, grease and coolants. Fuel and electricity. The Warrant Officer paused by a tank resting on a lift, it's tracks having been removed for refurbishment. Tenderly she placed a hand against the thick plate armour and smiled, feeling the machine spirit within the war machine slumber peacefully.
"Rest now, Baby," she said softly. "You've had a big day. Mommy promises tomorrow she'll refit your tracks, then you'll be faster than ever."
June-La kissed her fingers and patted the tank once more, wishing the tank sweet dreams before turning around to leave. Her mechanical family were safe for the night, and now she needed to return to her organic family. June-La sighed contentedly. Whether here in her workshops, or in her quarters in the base, she knew she would always have someone to care for and make her feel wanted. She would always be amongst her kind...
